Visual Objects is one of the preferred languages for the firms development work, and a large amount of experience has been gathered over the last seven years in practical work with the product. Approximately forty different applications have been written in that time, ranging from small one-off single user programs to large mission-critical suites in the manufacturing, service and financial industries.

Over the last years the firm has run three Australian conferences aimed at Visual Objects users and other desktop application developers, presenting speakers from overseas and Australia . It has also developed and presented VO training courses aimed at both the novice and experienced user, all of which have been well received.

We have created a seperate site to share our experiences working with VO, migrating DBF to SQL Server and moving into the word of C#. It consists of a Blog, lots of articles and an archive of VO tips and downloads.

This hands-on approach has led to a confidence in the language and a high level of knowledge of its strengths and weaknesses. Software Objectives’ staff members attend and/or present papers at a range of local and overseas conferences on Visual Objects associated topics each year. This investment in new technology and trends keeps the firm at the forefront of desktop development issues at an international level.

Visual Objects is a high productivity, rapid application development tool aimed at the client server or data intensive applications market. As one of the first and purest of Object Oriented languages, VO provides a complete development environment that is capable of combining legacy code and legacy coding techniques right along side modern OOP functionality.

Although on some levels it can be compared with Borland’s Delphi or Microsoft’s Visual Studio, it stands alone as a development tool for massive projects and complex applications. Visual Objects is delivered with 100’s of classes: from data access and forms through to HTTP and data access mechanisms. Visual Objects can exploit DCOM, ActiveX, DDE and all usual forms of application interchange. Class structures and prototypes are built upon C structures and data types so compatibility with 3rd party products is assured.

Designed for the Windows family of platforms, Visual Objects runs on and produces applications for: Windows 95, Windows 98, NT, W2K and XP. j Each of the main capital cities of Australia has a User Group to support and train Visual Objects developers. The Melbourne user group is operated from Software Objectives premises. Please visit the home page for details.

Vulcan.NET is a .NET compiler that is fully integrated into Microsoft Visual Studio.2005. The Vulcan.NET language uses the same syntax and language constructs as Visual Objects, and will be immediately familiar to Clipper, FoxPro, xBase++ and Visual Objects programmers. Extensions to the language bring all the features of .NET into the xBase world. Vulcan.NET executables can be debugged with Microsoft debugging tools.

VulcanDB is a data provider, and supports data access while using a minimal amount of resources. The data provider is compatible with the DBF/CDX feature set . Vulcan.NET is targeted to ship summer 2007. For more information on Vulcan.NET please visit our new GoVulcan.Net web site
