Laptop Considerations

Many clubs choose to use a laptop for the convenience of portability. Older laptops (over 2 years) may not be up to the task. The key factors to consider when choosing a laptop are the processor, RAM and display.

Display - Try to keep to displays that are at least 14' or larger. The larger the better but the display resolution must be at least 1281 x 900 or windows will not display properly.

Processor - Older laptops often use slow Pentium M or Celeron processors to save costs. They will be slow .... very slow. In purchasing a new laptop go for the fastest processor you can afford but insist on a Core 2 Duo.

RAM - Internal memory is the most important performance measure. Many older laptops come with 512MB which is shared with the graphics card. Make sure the graphics card has separate memory and insist on at least 1GB RAM. 2GB is best!

Printers

BridgeMaster will work with all printers supported by your operating system. Unlike old DOS programs, modern windows applications can support any printer: USB, direct connected or network printers.

If you have a colour printer then various reports will look nicer but black and white lasers or inkjets are fine.

The program will always use the current windows default printer. This can be changed and setup from the Printers & Faxes option in the Operating System.
